Backless Dress D.I.Y

Hey everyone, this week I’m sharing my first Fall D.I.Y.  I used Simplicity Pattern Newlook 6508 view C. I love everything about this dress, its actually a two piece. I can wear the skirt and the top separately.  This dress is backless and both pieces ( top & skirt) is being held together by the 5  buttons in front of the dress.

To make this dress I purchased 2 1/4 yards of Rayon fabric in the color red and black. The  Newlook pattern fabric suggestions were Chambray, Crepe, and Cotton Types, but I chose Rayon because its lighter in weight. Sewing this dress was pretty easy and I love how it turned out.

Vintage Two Piece

Hey everyone, this is week I created a Summer Vintage look using two Simplicity Patterns. For the top I used Simplicity 1426 view D and Simplicity Pattern 1559 view D for the skirt.I had to alter the skirt and the top at the side seams by 1 inch to get the perfect.  Also, for the skirt I used an 7 inch invisible zipper instead of a regular zipper at the center back. Those were the only changes I made for this d.i.y, and I’m pretty happy with the results.

Sewing this two piece was very easy and fun and I just love the sunflower print fabric. Summer will be over soon, so I’m sewing my last few projects I had plan for the season.  Make sure your subscribed to stay updated on my latest post, thank you for the support.  Here is my Vintage Two Piece D.I.Y :

OOTD

Today I’m wear McCall’s M7349 with my D.I.Y Pineapple print bucket bag. The dress I’m wearing is one of my favorite McCall patterns I made it twice last year ( Peach Dress).  So I went to Walmart and purchased 2 yards of pineapple print fabric because its a Summer fruit  and one of my favorites. I made my first bucket bag using a free tutorial on Youtube by Lejanaro Barnes and made matching earrings. There is one thing I love most about my style and it’s how I match accessories. When ever a bag is made I make sure to create matching earrings and vice versa. Yes, I make jewelry  and its a little challenging but fun. Had a quick photo-shoot before work.😊😁 Here is my OOTD:

Simplicity Maxi Dress

.Here with another Mimi G Style sewing D.I.Y. using Simplicity S8291 view B. This dress was very easy to sew, and it only took me two days to finish. I used a grey and black two-way stretch knit fabric, the same fabric I used for Simplicity S8095 View B . The front of my dress was sewn in the opposite direction of the photo, I just needed to see if the look of the dress was going to change and it didn’t so I’m happy.

There is is one change I would make to this dress and that is to cut it shorter. This dress turned out to be really long, even after I took six inches off the pattern. I think the next time I sew this dress I’ll shorten it two or three more inches, so it’s not touching the ground. Other than that, I really love this dress and its my favorite Mimi G pattern. Simplicity S8291 is an easy and  fast make and will be perfect for the Summer. I think this dress will look great in a unique floral print fabric, I have to remember before I sew this d.i.y  again.

Maxi Dress & Overhead Shrug

Hi everyone,  this week I’m sharing a double d.i.y post on a maxi dress and crochet shrug. I used McCall’s pattern M6559 view D for this diy. The dress was super easy to sew, it took only 3 hours to make including cutting the pattern. To make this dress, I used 2 yards of knit fabric and matching thread. Also, I used 3/4 inch single fold boss tape to finish the neckline and armhole.

I love the finished result of this maxi dress, it was easy and fast to sew.

The crochet overhead shrug, I used a pattern from the book titled Double Stitch:Designs For The Crochet Fashionista by The DoubleStitch Twins.

This is the third pattern I have crochet from the twin designers, and this was fast and easy to crochet. Originally, I made this in grey with bell sleeves and was inspired to make one with bishop sleeves.

I used 100% acrylic RedHeart Super Saver yarn in black and it took 3 to four hours to crochet.

After making the dress and shrug this week, I have plans to create this look again in many other colors. I really enjoyed working on this double d.i.y, both of these garments are perfect to wear all year long. Especially in California where it’s usually  warm, it doesn’t snow and hardly ever rains. The open work of the shrug  and the simple maxi will keep ya girl cool and comfy.
