Backless Dress D.I.Y

Hey everyone, this week I’m sharing my first Fall D.I.Y.  I used Simplicity Pattern Newlook 6508 view C. I love everything about this dress, its actually a two piece. I can wear the skirt and the top separately.  This dress is backless and both pieces ( top & skirt) is being held together by the 5  buttons in front of the dress.

To make this dress I purchased 2 1/4 yards of Rayon fabric in the color red and black. The  Newlook pattern fabric suggestions were Chambray, Crepe, and Cotton Types, but I chose Rayon because its lighter in weight. Sewing this dress was pretty easy and I love how it turned out.

McCall’s M7789

Hey everyone, Summer is finally here!! The first D.I.Y for the season is a very sexy and chic dress that’s so perfect for the hot weather. I really love this dress d.i.y, it was very easy to sew, and I had fun creating this look. I used McCall’s pattern M7789,  this pattern was released in Spring this year and I knew it had to be in my pattern collection. As soon as I got the pattern home I began planning for this d.i.y. To make this dress I purchased 3 yards of silk floral fabric, one invisible Zipper, thread, hook and eye. M7789_a

There are two changes I made to this dress. The first  was making two splits on the front of the skirt. The other revision I made was, instead of a regular zipper I used a invisible zipper at the center back of the dress. Other than that, this dress pattern was perfect and I do plan on sewing another soon for the Summer. Here is my Super Sexy Summer Dress D.I.Y.

D.I.Y Purple Dress

Hey everyone, here with another dress d.i.y. Purple is one of my favorite colors and its also the color of the year. I want to incorporate more purple into my wardrobe so now, I’m creating a small collection. Sewing a collection will allow me to add more colors and styles of clothing that are not in my closet. Each collection will have a theme and at least 4 or 5 garments.  This idea was inspired by Mimi G Style who is a sewing expert and she has created a blue and yellow collection so far this year.

This will be the third purple garment I’ve sewn since last month.  I’m so in love with this purple dress I made this week. I used 2 yards of 100% cotton  fabric, 2 yards of pink lining fabric, one 14 inch invisible zipper and matching thread to sew this dress. Also,  McCall’s pattern M7740 in view D from Joann’s craft store.  Sewing this d.i.y was a breeze and I had fun making this dress. Stay updated by subscribing or following my blog, I’m working  on garment number 4 for this collection.

Maxi Dress & Overhead Shrug

Hi everyone,  this week I’m sharing a double d.i.y post on a maxi dress and crochet shrug. I used McCall’s pattern M6559 view D for this diy. The dress was super easy to sew, it took only 3 hours to make including cutting the pattern. To make this dress, I used 2 yards of knit fabric and matching thread. Also, I used 3/4 inch single fold boss tape to finish the neckline and armhole.

I love the finished result of this maxi dress, it was easy and fast to sew.

The crochet overhead shrug, I used a pattern from the book titled Double Stitch:Designs For The Crochet Fashionista by The DoubleStitch Twins.

This is the third pattern I have crochet from the twin designers, and this was fast and easy to crochet. Originally, I made this in grey with bell sleeves and was inspired to make one with bishop sleeves.

I used 100% acrylic RedHeart Super Saver yarn in black and it took 3 to four hours to crochet.

After making the dress and shrug this week, I have plans to create this look again in many other colors. I really enjoyed working on this double d.i.y, both of these garments are perfect to wear all year long. Especially in California where it’s usually  warm, it doesn’t snow and hardly ever rains. The open work of the shrug  and the simple maxi will keep ya girl cool and comfy.

McCall’s Bishop Sleeve Dress

Hi everyone, last month I participated in ThatSewMonica’s Sew Your View Challenge. For each month Monica chooses a pattern and participants can sew their own view from that pattern. This was my first time joining the sew your view challenge and the pattern selected was McCall’s M7717.M7717_a

Sewing this garment was fun and I was excited to get started on this D.I.Y because I love the bishopBishop Sleeve.png sleeves, I think it’s so stylish. For my garment, I chose to sew view B in 100 percent light blue and grey floral cotton fabric. Also, I used four 5/8 inch light blue buttons, one 22 inch grey invisible zipper, and two yard of grey lining fabric.  Before sewing I made one change to the pattern and that was making the armhole 1\2 inch bigger. Other than that, there were no other changes made to the pattern or garment after ssewing and  I’m happy with the finished results. Finally, this month I’m showing off my bell sleeve dress. I hope this inspires you to sew your own view using this pattern.

May Pattern Haul

Its May and I have new sewing patterns that I just added to my collection. All of these patterns were purchased online on the McCall Pattern Company Website or at Joann’s Fabric store.  Most of the patterns below are from Simplicity Patterns, Vogue Patterns, and McCall’s Pattern Company.

This month pattern haul consist of three dress patterns, one top, one jacket, one jumpsuit and one coordinate pattern. I’ve already purchase fabric for McCall’s M7740, and I will be sewing View C or D this month. I love all of the patterns in this haul, hopefully I can make time to sew at least two of these garment before the end of the month.

Floral Fabric Haul

Hey everyone, this week I want to show some of my floral fabric from my stash. Most of these fabric I purchased last month and have plans to make dresses, tops, or skirts. I love floral print fabrics it’s one of my favorite types of material. This year I want to incorporate a lot more floral prints to my wardrobe. During the Spring and Summer is when I find the best apparel floral prints.

The first four fabrics are from the Joann’s store near my home. All four fabrics are 100% cotton, and I purchased 4 yards in each print. The price for these fabrics range from 5.99-7.99 a yard, they were on sale. The original price was between 10.99-14.99 a yard. The very last one on the bottom ( Blue & Black) I brought to make my boyfriend some Summer shorts, the rest will be tops, or dress.

Next, is this very beautiful blue floral print I found at the Los Angeles Fashion District. Its a cotton/poly blend, soft and sparkly, the price was 1.99 a yard, I purchased 4 yards to make a dress. This print is one of my favorite materials that I purchased so far.

Lastly, this black and pink floral print its 100% polyester. My plans were to make a pants and crop top but I change my mind, decided to make a dress instead. I purchase 4 yards of this fabric at the end of the month at my local fabric store Mylee Sewing Machine  for 5.99 a yard. I’ll be using McCall’s Pattern M7745  View A to sew a dress with this fabric, stay tuned for that post I’m working on this right now.
